As part of the ongoing celebrations of it’s 75th year, Sir J. J. Institute of Applied Art Alumni Network (JJAAAN), the institute faculty, staff and students are organizing a short film festival with a difference. A one of a kind, 10-day script-to-screen short film contest and screenings of all the short-listed films are the highlights of this festival.
JJUMP (J. J. Unique Motion Pictures) invites all film makers and film enthusiasts to participate in this unique contest.

The competition is open to all legal residents of India above the age of 18.
(The following are not eligible: Office bearers contractors, directors of JJUMP. JJUMP, its parent, subsidiaries and affiliated companies, distributors, web design, advertising, fulfilment, judging and competition agencies involved in the administration, development, fulfilment and execution of this competition, and the immediate family members of each (spouse, parent, child, sibling, grandparent, and spouse or “step” of each) and those living in their same households (those persons whether related or not who live in the same residence for at least three months during the twelve-month period preceding the start date of the Project)

To register for the competition, please download and complete the form and post it along with the cheque for registration fees to :Palasa Creative House, Bungalow No. 8, Satsang Complex, Upper Govind Nagar, Malad (E), Mumbai 400097.
Registration is based on a first-come first-served basis and space is limited. Regular registration fees is Rs. 2000. Eleventh Hour registration fees is Rs. 3000. Regular registrations can be submitted till 2 Jan 2010 and Eleventh Hour registrations can be submitted between 3 Jan and 6 Jan 2010.
If a team (“Entrant”) must withdraw from the competition, refunds will be paid on the following schedule:
- Notify JJUMP of withdrawal more than 6 days before
competition, refund 50%
- Notify JJUMP of withdrawal between 5 and 2 days
before competition, refund 25%
No refunds for withdrawal less than 2 days before competition and for eleventh hour registrations. Refunds will be made 1 month after the end of the festival.

JJUMP kicks-off on 12 January 2010 at 9AM at the Sir JJ Institute of Applied Arts, Dr. D. N. Rd. Fort, Mumbai. Participants (or their representatives) will have to be present at the time of kick-off. During kick-off the contestants will be given a subjects on which the short film will have to be based. The short film will also have to seamlessly incorporate certain elements such as in-film Branding in keeping with the spirit of applied art, which will be announced at kick-off.

All submissions of the completed short films must be done on the 22 January 2010 at 11AM at the display room of Sir JJ Institute of Applied Art.
Any film not delivered on time will not be accepted.

All short-listed entries will be screened on the 30th of January 2010 in an exciting, fun-filled setting on the expansive J. J. Institute campus.

Best Film award will be announced on Feb 19th, 2010 during the Annual Art Festival of JJIAAA.

A panel of judges will select the “Best Film.” The judges will be film critics, producers, actors, and filmmakers.
The judges’ criteria for “Best Film” are:
Creativity (33%)
Technical Merit (33%)
Adherence to the Assignment (33%)
Luck (1%)
Other optional awards may include: Best Direction, Best Script, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Acting, Best Music, Best Sound Design, and Best Special Effects.
The Top Entry will be declared the winner. In the event of a tie, the tie will be broken based on the highest score in the first Judging Criteria, continuing thereafter to each Judging Criteria in order, as needed to break the tie. Entrants agree that JJUMP has the sole right to decide all matters and disputes arising from this competition and that all decisions of JJUMP are final and binding.
The top Entry will be awarded a trophy; all selected entries will be screened to the audience at the 3 day festival held in the Sir JJ Institute of Applied Art campus.
Winners will be announced during conclusion ceremony of the festival.

Winners will be announced at a Grand Closing ceremony of the festival. The top entry will be awarded a trophy.

The following rules apply to each participating group/production team:
JJUMP competition will occur between Thursday 12 January 2010 9AM, and Sunday 22 January 2010 11AM,. The total working days will be 10 including weekends and public holidays.
JJUMP will not be responsible for any natural / unnatural calamities, rioting or other obstructions that could be cited as reasons for delay in completion or submissions at the competition.
The participating group / team must complete its film / video work in time to deliver it to the Display Room of Sir JJ Institute of Applied Art by 11AM on 22 January 2010.
Only works that meets the deadline will be officially part of the competition.
During the official 10-day production period, all creativity will take place, including but not limited to:
- Subject choosing
- Writing the script
- Rehearsing
- Costume/Set Design
- Shooting
- Editing
- Sound Design
- Rendering
- Outputting to tape / DVD or other media as announced.
The only work that can begin prior to the “Official 10-day Time Period” is:
- Organizing Crew
- Organizing Cast
- Securing Equipment
- Scouting/Securing Locations
All footage must be shot within the 10-day time period of the project. Stock footage or footage shot or created at another time may be used with prior consent or rights from its original creator. JJUMP is not responsible for any litigation arising from illegal usage of footage or stock shots. Animation and special effects are permitted, but must be created during the 10-day time period. Still photographs are permitted, provided that the team has the rights to use them. The photos do not need to be created during the 10-day time period. It is permissible for a participating group to use pre-recorded music; however the participating group must have the rights to any music used in its film and must provide a release for all music used.
Each participating group must have a representative at the official Kick-off Event of the competition. At the event, each group will submit a Team Leader’s Agreement, signed by the team leader. Each participant will be given one of two subjects. The participants themselves will decide the genre.
In addition, each group will be assigned required elements that must appear in its film. The required elements must be seen on-screen.
The duration of the finished film must be a minimum of 8 minutes, and a maximum of 10 minutes — including credits. The maximum duration for all titles and credits must be restricted to 60 seconds.
Participants are free to use any type of equipment required to tell their story. There is no restriction on the type of camera though the output is restricted to resolution 720 X 576 or 1920 X 1080. The participants must bear in mind that technical merit has 40% consideration.
2 copies of the final film must be delivered on a region free video DVD (please be informed that data DVDs will not be accepted). If the Entry cannot be viewed on JJUMP equipment, it may be disqualified.
All short-listed films received on deadline will be screened. To ensure the best screening of your film, please follow the instructions below.
The producer/team leader for each group must submit a complete and signed paper copy of the JJUMP Agreement (Team Leader’s Agreement) at the Kick-off Event prior to being allowed to draw a subject. Download the form here.

All costs associated with the production of the Entry are solely the responsibility of the Entrant.
Eligible Entries will be judged based on the judging criteria stated below.
Participants must be present at the designated times at the designated Event to participate.
Basic Requirement of the competition: At the Kick-off Event, Entrants will receive an assignment and be given exactly 10 days to make a video (an “Entry”).

The producer/team leader for each group must submit a complete and signed paper copy of the JJUMP Agreement at the Kick-off Event prior to being allowed to draw a subject. (This form can be downloaded from the JJUMP website.)
To be eligible for the competition entries
- must be the original work of the Entrant
- must not infringe third-party’s rights
- must be suitable for publication in adherence with broadcast and public screening laws of India (i.e., may not be obscene or indecent); must not contain obscene or pornographic material
- may not contain defamatory statements about any person, company, organization or entity
- may not invade privacy or other rights of any person, company or entity
- may not in any other way violate applicable laws and regulations
- may not contain any copyrighted elements (other than as owned by the Entrant and/or JJUMP).
Entries containing prohibited or inappropriate content as determined by JJUMP, in its sole discretion, to be inappropriate will be disqualified. JJUMP reserves the right to make the final determination as to which Entries are eligible.
The Entrant must submit a Certification Statement with his/her completed Entry, certifying adherence to his entry.
JJUMP will not stand liable to any infringement of laws under any jurisdiction.
No Entries (media or documents) will be returned.
JJUMP and organizers may, in their sole discretion, disqualify Entries deemed to be inappropriate or otherwise non-compliant.
All films compliant with the rules are eligible to compete for title of Best Film 2010. Panels of independent judges will determine the winners.
The JJUMP Organizers may add to or amend these rules at any time prior to the beginning of the 10 day time period.
Terms of Submission:
By submitting an Entry into this competition, each Entrant warrants and represents that the Entrant owns all rights to the Entry he/she is entering in this competition, including, without limitation, the video or digital recording, and the performance contained in each Entry, with the exception of any assets provided by the JJUMP for use by Entrants in connection with this competition.
Each Entrant further warrants and represents that the Entrant has obtained permission from each person who appears in the Entry to grant the rights to the screening & broadcast as described in these Official Rules, and will submit copies of such permissions to the organizers.
By submitting an Entry, Entrant agrees to the Official Rules, and further agrees to indemnify and hold the JJUMP, organizers and their respective affiliates, officers, directors, agents, co-branders or other partners, and any of their employees (collectively, the “competition indemnity”), harmless from any and all claims, damages, expenses, costs (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) and liabilities (including settlements), brought or asserted by any third party against any of the competition Indemnities due to or arising out of the Entrant’s Entry materials in this competition, or the Entrant’s conduct during and in connection with this competition, including but not limited to trademark, copyright, or other intellectual property rights, right of publicity, right of privacy or defamation.
Entrant agrees to release, indemnify and hold harmless, JJUMP and the organizers from any and all claims that any advertising, presentation, web content or any other material subsequently produced, presented, and/or prepared by or on behalf of JJUMP or the organizer infringes on the rights of Entrant’s work as contained in any Entry.
As a condition of entry, participants must agree to the JJUMP Agreement, which sets forth the rights of Entrant and JJUMP with respect to the use of Entries by JJUMP. Entries that do not include all required information and adhere to the foregoing and following requirements will be considered void and will not be considered in this competition.
If any group of individuals’ wishes to collaborate on an Entry, they are required to designate one (1) person as the agent of the group to enter the competition, agree to these Official Rules, sign the Team Leader’s Agreement and accept the prize on behalf of the group. Neither JJUMP nor any of the individuals related to JJUMP are liable for any disputes between collaborators arising out of or related to the Competition or Entries.

By participating, Entrants agree to these Official Rules, which are final and binding in all respects. JJUMP reserves right to rejection of any entry on basis of selection committee’s decision. The decision of the selection committee or the jury will be final and cannot be challenged in any court and in any jurisdiction.

No liability or responsibility is assumed by JJUMP resulting from any user’s participation in or attempt to participate in the competition or ability or inability to upload or download any information in connection with participating in the competition. No responsibility or liability is assumed by JJUMP for technical problems or technical malfunction arising in connection with any of the following occurrences, which may affect the operation of the Competition. Each participating entrant will be responsible for the safety and insurance of its crew and equipment or any citizen or animal or any property public or private. JJUMP takes no responsibility for any accidents, deaths or injuries caused while, before or after filming / production of the competition films. JJUMP will not be responsible for inability of the entrant’s timely submission due to any natural or unnatural calamity, traffic jams, rioting or other unmentioned reasons. JJUMP will not be responsible for any misdirection, miscommunication or misunderstanding aroused due to miscommunication or faulty telephone lines, network, Internet, email or websites. JJUMP and organizers are not responsible for any typographical errors in the announcement of prizes or these Official Rules, or any inaccurate or incorrect data contained on the Web Site. Use of Web Site is at user’s own risk. JJUMP and the Project Parties are not responsible for any personal injury or property damage or losses of any kind, which may be sustained, to users or any other person resulting from participation in the Project. By participating in the Project, Entrant agrees to release, indemnify and hold JJUMP harmless from any and all claims, damages or liabilities arising from or relating to such Entrant's participation in the Project.
